About
Noel Mealey
Member of Australian Institute Of Authors, Queensland Writers Centre and Brisbane Book Authors
I like to research and blend true stories with compelling characters, to create entertaining and meaningful fiction. From dealing with mega-rich entrepreneurs to associating with wanted criminals, crooked police and corrupt politicians, I have lived an interesting life journey that allows me to build on characters and put a face to bent clergy, wily journalists, gangsters and murderers.

I was inspired to write by my father, who had a wonderful talent for storytelling. Those stories, told under the stars on hot summer nights in Australia, focused on the eccentric personalities he knew and encouraged me to create characters that are reflections of my own real life associates.

My first book Murder and Redemption (Harper & Collins Publishers) is available in paperback an e-book.
My second novel, "The Icon Murders" (also published by Harper & Collins) is available at bookshops and e-books.

My recent book "The Seduction of Sunni Sinclair" was released in March 2024. The audio book was released April 2024.

Book Club

From intriguing mysteries and heart-rending memoirs to a slew of fashionable debuts, there is no shortage of thrilling reads in 2024.

Here are some great books to keep your club buzzing this month:

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins is still making its way through the book club circles, especially given a new movie in production.

" If it's only a better life you seek, seek it elsewhere. This path is only for people who have no choice, no other option, only violence and misery behind you. And your journey will grow even more treacherous from here. Everything is working against you."―American Dirt

Meditations; A New Translation (Revised), authored by Marcus Aurelius and Translated by Gregory Hayes.

Visiting the Capitoline Hill in Rome last year, I was intrigued by the bronze horseman raising a hand in greeting—the (modern replica) statue of Marcus Aurelius, ruler of the Roman Empire for twenty years around AD 121 and on my return to Australia, bought the book (Kindle edition)—Meditations; A New Translation (Revised), authored by Marcus Aurelius and Translated by Gregory Hayes.

In the decade of Trump, Johnson, Putin, Netanyahu, Biden, and Zelensky, the relevance of his Meditations to world leaders is more significant than ever. Marcus Aurelius, who identified as a bringer of peace rather than a military hero, believed philosophy guided him to provide a "design for living", a set of rules for a leader to live his life by.
But philosophy also had a more practical dimension. It was not merely a subject to write or argue about, but one that provided a "design for living"—a set of rules to live one's life by. It is a self-help book for world leaders, a "How to for Presidents," and a measuring stick for the rest of us to sit in judgment on them.

He tackles the big questions. Why are we here? How to live our lives. How to do what is right. How to deal with life's daily stresses, pressures, pain and misfortune. How to live with the inevitability of death. "Time is a river," he observes, "a violent current of events, glimpsed once and already carried past us …."
It is an easy read, one to keep by the bedside to dip into and think about.

Prophet Song by Paul Lynch

I am now reading Paul Lynch’s latest book, Prophet Song (Booker Prize 2023), a shattering dystopian fiction of Ireland’s tumble into totalitarianism and a timely reminder to professional and amateur politicians of the depths of the chasm alongside which democracies tread in the twenty-first century. The author propels the reader towards doom at machinegun speed with dialogue and narrative combined uninterrupted by quotation marks or speech tags. It is an exciting book in plot and presentation, describing life in a modern democracy under siege from extremism on all sides of politics. When do you run? What do you leave behind? A book to read slowly and understood. Urgently.
